Self Reflection explores the transformative nature of life and the moments that inspire growth, spirituality, and introspection. The installation is designed to make the audience feel a deep sense of peace within their past, present, and future self. Rather than forcing this idea upon viewers literally, the work aims to draw them inward — to hold them within a meditative, reflective state of their own making.
The videos present imagery of the ocean in different states (angry, calm, ect). I believe the ocean morphs with the natural ebb and flow of human experience. The ocean is a metaphor for emotion — calm and turbulent, shifting with unseen forces such as storms, wind, and lunar tides. There are two videos being projected, one if reversed. The reversed projection underscores cycles of behavior — the tendency to ignore intuition and repeat patterns. Sound design is integral to the piece. Using free sources of audio I composed a score that requires the space of a room to fully be experienced. Using multiple speakers to create a sense of dialogue between ambient sounds.
Ultimately, Self Reflection is a portable, multi-channel installation that invites viewers to journey inward. It seeks to remind participants to reflect on themselves, and delve into personal experiences in hopes of understanding their lasting impact.
